Sixth Annual Pasadena Festival of Tea

The garden’s most popular event of the year is here. Participating tea purveyors will be with their teas and tea accessories for sale.

You can choose from three sessions to attend during the festival.

For a limited number of guests, traditional Japanese tea ceremony demonstrations will be held in the garden’s Japanese Niko-an teahouse. Our tea practitioner, Mikko Nakatomi, serves guests Japanese tea and sweets while sharing information about the history and traditions of the tea ceremony.

Held in the Japanese garden on Arlington Drive and in the traditional Japanese teahouse, the festival is a delight for tea lovers and garden lovers alike.

JT &T, Bana Tea, Callisto Teahouse, TTT (Japanese tea and matcha), Takuma Ienaga (Japanese Yame tea and Arita ceramics)Glenburn Fine Tea, and The Good Liver will represent Japanese, Chinese, and Indian tea traditions. Every registered guest will receive a special a custom-made Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden tea tasting cup at check-in, and the tea specialists will offer samplings of their teas and share expert knowledge and advice. Additional cups for children can be purchased for $2 each. We will also be joined by ceramic artist Julie Bagish, who will be selling her beautiful Japanese-style tea ceremony and other tea wares.

 

The garden’s gift shop, Takara-ten, will offer an array of antique and vintage items that make wonderful gifts, including a special pop-up sale of Japanese treasures. And we will be selling cans of Japanese iced tea and Japanese snacks to enjoy in the garden. Garden Donors receive 10% off shop purchases.

 

Stroll among camellias, azaleas and various other fragrant and sometimes drinkable plants as spring works its magic in the beautiful stroll garden. Originally designed in the late 30s by Kinzuchi Fujii, and recently restored by Takeo Uesugi, FAIA, the garden is on the National Register of Historic Places and is listed as a California Historical Landmark.

 

 

  • Registration closes the day before at 5pm but we will be accepting walk-ins as long as space allows
  • Children 12 and under receive free admission
  • The garden is wheelchair accessible but there are stairs to enter the teahouse
